Layered double hydrotalcites pillared by heteropoly oxometalates with Keggin structure, Zn 2Al XW 11 Z(X=Si(Ⅳ), Ge(Ⅳ) and B(Ⅲ); Z=Co(Ⅱ), Ni(Ⅱ) and Cu(Ⅱ)) and Zn 2Al XW 11 (X=Si(Ⅳ) and Ge(Ⅳ)), have been synthesized by anion exchange method. The catalysts were found to be catalytically efficient for the oxidation of benzaldehyde to benzoic acid using H 2O 2 as oxidant in liquid solid liquid triphase system. It was deduced that the reaction of benzaldehyde and H 2O 2 in the presence of the catalysts undergoes free radical reaction mechanism. Thermal stability of the catalysts was also studied by DTA, XRD and IR. The results showed that the thermal stability of all the Zn 2Al XW 11 Z is higher than their precursor Zn 2Al NO 3, the reason accounted for this phenomenon is suggested.
