两种L2语篇修辞模式分析——基于西方学者的评判

Evaluation and Analysis of Two Categories of L2 Writings

为了考察汉文化语篇修辞模式及其发展和变化,选用了国内2种类型的L2语篇作为分析样本:外语类和文史类学术期刊英文摘要、英语专业学生的命题作文,并请美国著名语言学家和语篇分析专家W allace Chafe进行评价。对评价结果的分析表明:学术语篇中,修辞模式有与西方同化的趋势;学生L2作文修辞模式呈现出分化的趋势,既有东方传统,也有西方模式。因此,特定的语言社团的语篇修辞模式并不像传统对比修辞所认为的那样整齐划一。

This article is an examination of Chinese discourse patterns in written texts. Two categories of English text samples are selected ： English abstracts from Chinese academic journals and writings by Chinese students as English majors and they are measured and evaluated by American linguist Wallace Chafe. Results show that in the writings analysed both Eastern and Western discourse styles coexist, not just the ＂spiral＂ pattern proposed by Robert Kaplan. The academic writings mostly conform to western style while the students＇ writings have both Eastern and Western patterns. This study suggests that discourse patterns of a given language community tend to change with social progress.
