Discuss on the Ancient Idea of "Depending on the People" and Its Implication

儒学理论家和遵循儒学的实践家,大都将民本理念作为治国的一条主线。尽管在实践中,民本思想并未得到很好的贯彻执行,但是,这种思想本身,无论在任何时代,都是一条颠扑不破的真理。任何一个清醒的统治者都应该懂得,一个政权的获得,首先要合民意;实现社会的和谐与安宁,更是要得乎民心,顺乎民意。失去民心,违背民意,必定是要垮台的。所以,千万不要忽视民众百姓在国家治理和发展中的根本地位和关键作用。这便是从儒学民本或人本思想中得出的合乎逻辑的结论。

The Confucianism theoreticians and the people who follow the Confucianism, mostly regard the idea of“depending on the people” as the main line to role the nation. Although in the practice, it doesn＇t obtain well implementation. But this kind of thought itself, regardless of in any time, is an unbreakable truth. Any sober ruler should understand that obtaining a political power, firstly it should gather the public opinion. Its consolidation and the society＇s harmony and peace need obtain the popular sentiment and consider the public opinion. It must collapse if losing the popular sentiment and violating the public opinion. Therefore, we can＇t neglect the basic status and key function of the common people in the national government and development. It is the logical conclusion from the idea of“depending on the people”.
