张岱年先生在现代中国哲学史上第一个比较全面地论述了中国哲学的特色,这即是中国哲学的整体结构上的本体论、致知论(认识论)、道德论的统一;本体论上本体与现象的统一;生活与思想、理想一致;重人生而不重知论;唯物主义与辩证观念相互结合的传统;生死自然的观点与无神论在哲学发展中的深刻影响。他还分析了中国哲学的6个缺点,并探讨了这些特色和缺点的成因。

In the modem philosophy history of China, Mr. Zhang Dainian is the first one who comprehensively elaborated the features of Chinese traditional philosophy. It is the unification of ontology, epistemology and the morals philosophy in the whole structure of Chinese philosophy. In ontology, noumenon and phenomenon are unified. The life is eonsistent with thought and ideal. More attentions are paid to life instead of knowledge theory. The materialism and the dialectical idea are mutually unified. The natural life and death viewpoint and atheism has deep influence on the development of traditional philosophy. He has also analyzed the six shortcomings of Chinese philosophy, and inquired into the origins of these features and the shortcomings.
