Ensuring Sustainable Development of China's Translation Industry through Regulatory Measures:Possible Solutions to the Problems Currently Besetting China's Translation Industry

本主旨发言分析了当前中国翻译产业界面临的一些制约其发展的重要因素和问题。为提高中国翻译产业的核心竞争力,实现翻译产业的可持续发展。发言人提出以下时策建议:一、进一步加强行业自律和管理;二、推动关于翻译的各项国家标准的制定和完善;三、建立各项翻译评估机制;四、有效整合翻译资源。实现翻译产业的规模发展;五、优化翻译专业人才和翻译师资队伍;六、大力宣传翻译事业、维护翻译工作者的权益;七、加强对翻译产业的全面深入调查。

This keynote speech analyses some of the major factors and problems which hinder the development of China＇s translation industry. To enhance this industry＇s essential competitiveness and to ensure its development in a sustainable manner, the speaker proposes that the following strategies be adopted： 1） attaching greater importance to the self-discipline as well as the regulation of the industry; 2） pushing for the formulation and perfection of national standards on translation and interpretation; 3） setting up mechanisms for appraising the quality of translation and translator training; 4） tapping into available resources and significantly expanding the industry; 5） facilitating professionalization of translation and translation teaching; 6） enhancing the profile of the translation industry, promoting translators＇ and interpreters＇ rights and interests; 7） gaining a comprehensive, in-depth understanding of translation as an industry.
