改革开放以来,中华民族传统体育文化受西方体育文化的强烈冲击以及国家和社会对其的着力弘扬,使之呈现出振兴、衰退和融合更新并存的状况。随着文化全球化,尤其是西方体育全球化的到来,这种状况将持续存在并加剧或扩展。
