在中国古代小说的评点文字中,对作品中人物形象的分析评价颇多。无论是人物形象本身所具备的社会意义还是审美价值,也无论是作者塑造人物形象的方法还是读者对书中人物的观感,评点者们都进行了耐心的探讨和深刻的研究。而其中,评点家们对小说作品中人物身上的集体意识———传统伦理道德和作家本人的个体意识———作者心灵展示这样两个问题的评论尤有一定的深度。因此,研究中国古代小说及其批评者,理应对这两方面的问题注意一二。

The comments on Chinese ancient novels are rich in critical evaluation on the characters. The critics have done patient and profound researches into not only the character＇s representative social images and aesthetic values but also the authors＇ way of configuring the characters and the feel of the readers. And they have especially dug into two aspects-the collective awareness of the characters and the individual awareness of the authors, which is worth the notice of the concerned researchers.
