摘要 F·R·利维斯把《弗洛斯河上的磨坊》中麦琪的命运归咎于乔治·爱略特的稚嫩，本文对这一观点提出质疑。本文通过该小说中的背景、人物、故事情节，分析麦琪与周围的各种冲突以及她追求爱情所经历的痛苦，得出以下结论：麦琪的命运和追求无不与当时兴起的工业革命息息相关。小说反映了英国工业革命对人们价值观的冲击，以及在工业化转型时期英国社会的情感结构，折射出了作家对当时泛起的商业价值观的深刻反思。 The present paper challenges F. R. Leavis＇ view that Maggie＇ s fate in The Mill on the Floss is due to George Eliot＇ s immaturity. A contextual analysis of the background,the characters and the plot of the novel, with the focus on Maggie＇ s clashes with the other characters, and the agony she has suffered in the pursuit of love, comes to the conclusion： Maggie＇s fate is closely related with the ongoing revolution; and the novel also reflects the clashes of the values the revolution has brought about, the structures of feeling prevailing in that society, and the writer＇ s response to the commercial values emerging at that time.
