Suydam Cutting,Theo Bernard and the two members of the Tolstoy-Dolan Mission were the Americans who entered Tibet during the 1930's up to China's anti-Japanese War period.Their visits to Tibet promoted the Americans' understanding towards Tibet.Among these visits, the Tolstoy-Dolan Mission was the most important one,and it was the first time that the United States sent an official mission into Tibet and established direct contact with the Kashag. This incident exerted a great influence on the Americans' later involvement in Tibetan issues.
