This also filled the 6-year vacancy of the 1st class award since the establishment of National Technology Innovation Award. The general achievement of this research work caught up the world advanced level; the comprehensive performance of their innovated material approached world-leading level; their work would further contribute greatly in national defense technology and economic development. Their research work on continuous fiber reinforced SiC ceramic matrix composite was internationally recognized as a new thermal structural material, which represented nation's manufacturing capabi- lity for advanced aerospace shuttle. China was the 3rd country that held this technology following France and USA. The achievement from Prof. Litong Zhang and his research team told that the success in the research of materials came from their consistent pursuing to new thought, new technology and new process, from their persistent exploration, and from their hardheaded working style
