America was in the period of rapid social transformation from the end of the Civil War to the early days of the 20th century. In this period, America was transforming rapidly from an agricultural society to an industrial society and its economy developed fast. But in the meantime, a large number of problems of society, politics and economy arose in America. These problems affected the social stability and economic sustainable development in America and impelled America to carryout social reforms all-sidedly.
