The scope and the type of frequency adverbs

本文在对频率副词科学定义的基础上,指出频率副词具有以下三个语义特征:离散性、不确定性、量度性。这三个特征能把频率副词从时间副词和重复量副词中分离出来,从而能有效地划定频率副词的范围。在频率副词的内部分类上,根据语义功能的差异,首先把频率副词分为判断性频率副词和描写性频率副词两大类,然后根据在句子中所处的信息位置、语义的单一性和多样性,再对这两类副词作了典型成员和非典型成员的划分,从而构建起频率副词内部的分类系统。

Based on the scientific definition of frequency adverbs, this paper specifies three semantic features of them: diffuseness, indefiniteness and quantifiableness. These features differentiate frequency adverbs from time adverbs and repetitive adverbs and that enables us to define the scope of frequency adverbs. The frequency adverbs can be divided into two categories: that of judgment and that of description, in terms of semantic functions; again, both the two include typical ones and untypical ones that characterized by their information position, semantic uniqueness or diversity. The above analysis helps to establish a system for the classification of frequency adverbs.
