摘要
情态模糊限制语作为模糊语言中的一个重要分类，有着独特的语义特征和丰富的语用功能。本研究在对比分析JDEST学术英语语料库和两个通用英语语料库的基础上，进一步探析和归纳九个情态模糊限制语的使用倾向及特征，由此揭示出情态模糊限制语在促使学术语言的表达更委婉、更含蓄的情形下，达到写作者适度推测、缓和语气和自我保护的语用功效。
Hedges, one of the most important branches in fuzzy family, have the unique semantic features and profound pragmatic functions. The study compares JDEST with two other corpora to explore the tendency of usage of 9 modal hedges. Based on the statistic analysis, it arrives that modal hedges play an important pragmatic role to make academic English more polite and euphemistic. Using them appropriately, the author can make moderate epistemic, uncertainty and achieve self-protection.
