Objective: In order to search potent intervening means for low- level exercise - associated cellular immune capacities, effect of supplementation of herbal polysaccharide extracts on quantifies of periphenal T lymphocytes subsets and T lymphocytes in exercising rats was observed. Methods: 120 Wistar Rats were randomly divided into 6 groups: sedentary cortrol group (n = 20), sedentary with supplementation of APS group (n = 20), sedentary with supplementation of ABPS group (n = 20), training group (n = 20), training with supplementation of APS group ( n = 20) and training with supplementation of ABPS group ( n = 20). Exercising rats took an incremental load protocol of swimming. After 4-week and 6-week training, numbers of peripheral T lymphocytes subsets and T lymphocytes in circulating blood were tested by FCM. Results: After 6-week training, (1) In training group, numbers of CD4 + and the ratio of CD4^+ to CD8^+ in T lymphocyte subsets,as wen as were lower than that in sedentary control group ( P 〈 0.05). (2) Amounts of circulating activated T lymphocytes were declined in trained rats. (3) Blood indexes above mentioned were not decreased in rats supplemented with ABPS or APS ( P 〉 0.05). Conclusion: The results indicated that supplementation with ABPS or APS may help prevent the ratio of CD4^+ to CD8^+ and numbers of CD4^+ as well as activated T lymphocyte in circulating Hood from reducing.
