The proposal creates a series of open spaces that provide a physical and social seam between the districts on either side of the rail corridor. Entertainment, education and recreation nodes reinforce the existing land uses in the area, bring together the diverse student population in the Haidian district, and give distinct identities to three new areas between the light rail stations. The resulting seam provides a destination that is attractive to the students and residents of the area and establishes a new hierarchy of connections and paths along and across the rail corridor.
