罗马文明是人类历史上最重要和最伟大的文明之一,由于它的富足和强大,古罗马家具失去了希腊的纯朴与天真,表现出追求豪华和富丽的倾向。古罗马家具毕竟是古希腊家具的继承,并把它又向前推进了一步,达到了世界奴隶制时代家具的顶峰,为整个人类留下了宝贵的文化遗产。整个西方家具的历史大部分是这种古代遗产的发展和复兴,这就是我们研究西方古典家具史论的理由。

Roman civilization was one of the most important and the greatest civilizations in the human history and it lost the purity and natural beauty due to its power and rich and focused on ostentatious display. However, Roman furniture was the inheritance of Greek furniture and put onwards and reached the furniture summit of slave system times which is the precious heritage of human. Western furniture is largely the history of the development and renaissance of this antique inheritance, that may be the reason to study the western furniture history.
