By introducing the project of converting an old factory at Liuying road in Shanghai into a commercial block,the author pointed out our belief in the importance of maintaining certain relics of the past,serving as a collective memory of a city＇s history,and discussed the architects＇ role and designing attitude in general old building conversion.
