在东北作家群研究中存在着一些不正确的意见:即认为凡是30年代在东北生活过的作家都是该群体成员,认为他们彼此与鲁迅的关系和鲁迅的扶植是联结群体的精神纽带,认为群体存在的时间是从1936年初到抗战爆发,认为群体在艺术上尚未成熟等。其实该群体是由10多位在东北沦陷前后从这里走出的小说家组成的,联结他们的精神纽带,是他们生活在相同的地域环境和相同的历史条件所促成的相同心态。该群体在1936年形成后一直持续到抗战胜利,其文学创作的艺术水平也较高。
