Herba Asari Used in Large Dosage for Difficult Cases

细辛为马兜铃科植辽细辛或华细辛的带根全草,味辛性温,归肺、肾经。具有祛风散寒止痛、温肺化饮、宣通鼻窍之功,常用治风寒表证,风冷头痛、鼻渊、齿痛、痰饮咳逆,风湿痹痛等。其用量自宋代《本草别说》:'细辛单用末,不可过钱匕,多则气塞而死'之后,直到中华人民共和国药典1—5版均记载'辛不过钱'之戒。

Doctors traditionally used no more than 5 grams of Herba Asari m treating diseases.The author,used 7-30 grams of the drug in the treatment of difficult cases such as bradycardia,carcinomatous liver pain,lichen planus, multiple aorto-arteritis,ect.The author holds that Herba Asari has the effect of waring,removing and dispers- ing and can be used in cases with stagnation of qi,stasis of blood or accumulation of phlegm.When the drug is used in large dosage,it is advisable to decoct it for 40 minutes to more than one hour in oredr to reduce toxicity.
