摘要 Since the beginning of 2006, the Taliban has intensified its attacks in Afghanistan in various forms, especially in the south. The U. S.-led coalition forces, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), and the Afghan Army found themselves constantly be the victims of ambushes, suicide bombings, and roadside blasts. On May 24, Tom Kolins, the spokeman of the U. S. forces, openly admitted for the first time that the Taliban had acturally restored its control over some areas in the south. On June 8, NATO defence ministers met in Brussels and decided to increase NATO' s presence in Afghanistan. At present, though the overall security situation is under control, the Taliban still has considerable military strength. Moreover, to a certain extent, it gains popular support both in Afghanistan and Pakistan. It seems unlikely that the U. S.-led coalition forces and the Afghan Army could wipe out the Tallban totally in the foreseeable future. For a while, the low-intensity conflicts will continue to exist in Afghanistan. In the first half of 2006, the Taliban armed forces intensified their terrorist attacks in Afghanistan, thus drawing attention of the international community. The worse situation there will inevitably produce negative impacts on the security in the west regions of China. Based on a thorough analysis of the situation, the author concluded that the low-intensity conflicts there would continue in some time to come.
