Abstract This paper gives an approach to cope with the 'wrinkle' problem in the surface G1 connection. The surface 'wrinkles' are caused by the contradiction between G1 constraints on the surface control points and the free input of them. Here, we utilize the multi-pass linear variational optimization method to adjust the surface control points automatically so that the sulfaces have not only C1 continuity but also fairness.
