In Susan Glaspell' s Trifles, the segregation of men and women on the stage symbolically points at the separation of the two sexes in socio- political life and gender differences in language use, thought patterns and moral judgment. The overwhelming contrast reveals the playwright's deep concern of the gender relationship and women's rights at the turn of the twentieth century.
