The project of transformation the feedstock from heavy oil to coal for production of ammonia syngas is described, with emphases on the selection of coal gasification process, the implementation of the project and the situation of trial run of the unit. After overcoming several problems emerged in the project, the Shell puh＇erized coal gasification unit has been put into operation successfully, which symbolizes that the Shell pulverized coal gasification process for the first time to be commercialized for ammonia syngas production.
