From opposition to harmony——Inquiring into the relations of the Buddhism and Taoism in novels of the Tang and Five Dynasties

唐代是佛道二教的发展成熟期。终唐一世,佛道二教之间的斗争几乎未曾停息过。尤其是初期,由于卷入了政治斗争的漩涡,二者的斗争尤为剧烈。但到后期有渐趋平和的迹象。在唐五代小说中,以宗教为题材的作品占了很大比重,从其中即可清晰的看出二者从对立到融合的发展趋势。

The Buddhism and Taoism grew and grew up in the Tang Dynasty. However, they attacked each other ceaselessly throughout the Tang Dynasty. At the initial stages especially, there was a fierce conflict between them because of their involvement into the politics. In the late Tang Dynasty, however, the opposing situation was alleviated gradually. A large proportion of novels of the Tang and Five Dynasties involve religion, from which how the two religions develop from opposition to harmony can be traced clearly.
