The history of development of automobile safety air bag in the USA is briefly described,which indicates that to formulate the regulation of installing safety air bag on automobile and enact and implement it has forcefully promoted the technic development and consummation of safety air bag which is an incontestable automobile safety installation beneficial to mankind.Some constituent parts of the safety air bag system (sensors,gas inflator and air bag components),as well as design philosophy and main technical difficulties have been expounded in detail.Finally the author puts forth some comments about how to carry forward air bag in this country.
