Some Problems of the Monument Inscription and History Books in the Song Dynasty

历代碑刻是流传至今最为重要的历史资料之一,宋代的碑刻对宋史研究具有重要的意义。一方面,现存文献很少记录有关宋代社会、宗教、风俗、妇女等诸多领域的资料,而碑刻却能弥补传世文献之不足,拓展宋史研究的视野;另一方面,碑刻可与史籍互证,相得益彰,更好地恢复历史本来面目。二者互证能纠正现存文献的某些错谬,为历史研究提供更为可靠、准确的史料,从而有助于对宋史的认识和理解。

It＇s no doubt that every dynasty＇s inscriptions are one of the most important historical materials not excepting Song＇ s ones. On the one hand, the extant documents seldom had the records dealing with Song＇s society, religions, customs, women, and etc., while the inscriptions retained a great deal of materials that the historical books hadn＇t recorded. Therefore the inscriptions can compensate for the documents and enormously develop Song history research. On the other hand, it is possible to restore the inscriptions and the documents to their originals through approving each other. This method can not only correct the errors in the documents, but also collate the inscriptions with the documents. Thus more reliable and more correct historical materials can be provided for research and our understanding of Song history will become deeper and deeper.
