Advances on Polyploid Breeding in Watermelon

多倍体西瓜具有少籽、丰产、耐贮、对病虫害抗性较强、抗逆性好、果实含糖量高等优点。从1939年获得第一个四倍体西瓜以来,多倍体育种就一直是西瓜育种的一个热点。文章概述了西瓜多倍体的产生途径、鉴定方法,西瓜多倍体育种的应用以及研究新动向。

Polyploid watermelon has many virtues such as seedless, high yield, good tolerance to storage and transportation, high resistance to plant diseases and insect pests, and also high central soluble solids content. Since the first tetraploid watermelon was obtained in 1939, polyploidy breeding has always been the focus of watermelon breeding. In this article, ways of polyploid breeding, the identification of polyploidy, application of watermelon polyploidy, and the prospective of watermelon polyploid breeding are reviewed.
