GHR gene is an attractive candidate gene for animal productivity and has been a focus of research aiming at increasing meat and milk production of ruminants. Recently, more studies have been conducted in cattle, sheep and goats on GHR gene, the further research could lead to the break through of candidate gene search in animal breeding and production, and pave the way toward the marker assistant selection. This article describes the structure and functional region of GHR, the research in gene structure and expression, and the association of GHR gene polymorphisms with production traits of cattle, sheep and goats.
