This paper provides the operation method of Windows XP SP2 firewall and application embodiment. It studies Windows XP SP2 firewall （ICF） technology, through inserting, installing, setting up personal firewall and ICF respectively under different networkings. The result proves：The firewall of Windows XP SP2 almost has all the merits of other kinds of personal firewalls, and it takes up less systematic resources, is less likely to be attacked, and has better network security.
