长期以来人们对苏北由富庶到衰败的历史变化研究甚少,汪汉忠的《灾害.社会与现代化——以苏北民国时期为中心的考察》进行了开创性的探索。该著作不仅以新的视野研究了苏北地区兴衰的地方史而且通过当时社会救济、灾荒防治等政策的研究使社会史学研究有了新的面貌,即灾害对社会发展和社会心理的影响,政府及社会的灾荒政策问题,都有精到的描述与分析。

For a quite long time, there is little research about the historical change of north part of Jiangsu from prosperity to depression. Disasters--Society and Modernity--the Inspection Concentrated on the North Part of Jiangsu in the Nationalist Government by Wang Hanzhong presents creative discovery. The book not only focuses on the local history of the prosperity and depression in north part of Jiangsu with new prospect, but also poses a new aspect of sociological study by researching into the policies of that time, such as the social relief, disaster prevention and so on. Namely, it gives an elaborate description and analysis about the effect disasters bring to social development and social psychology, and the disaster policies of the government and society.
