Computer Supported Cooperative Work （CSCW） is the higher level application and development trend of office automation （OA）, While computer mediated communication is the core technology of CSCW. This article introduces the application of computer mediated communication in CSCW, then gives a brief introduction to instant messaging technology, which is the basic and important part of computer mediated communication technology. Then the popular instant messaging service solution is introduced. At the end of the article, a case of instant messaging service construction in local area network is given.
