Starting from the viewpoint that an efficient books and information system should bring about the largest availability of information in various forms, this article analyzes the extent of unavailability of material with traditional library practices and calculates the improvement in avaliability that a collection of machine readable books will bring about, and it is proposed that popularization of microcomputer circulation management of books and periodicals is necessary and feasible.
