The llO-year history of Sichuan University vividly demonstrates the spirit of this university with the kernel principle embodied by the university motto that ＂tolerance begets all with the sea inviting hundreds of rivers＂ and the combination of ＂strictness, diligence, truth seeking, and innovation. ＂ Such spirit is the unity of historical inheritance with pioneering exploration, the spirit of science and of human. And it is the mixture of present needs and tendency in future, the social demands and personal development.
