Whether designing new facilities or upgrading existing facilities, the provision of accessibility for people with disabilities can pose significant challenges. This is particularly true when it comes to major sporting events where the needs of spectators, journalists and the athletes themselves must be considered. The areas requiring accessibility include competition areas, podiums, viewing areas, washrooms, restaurants, shops, accommodation and even transportation at airports and railway stations.
