Doubles, as a connnon literary phenomenon, help authors to convey what is difficult to express through only one of the two. In Doris Lessing' s The Diaries of Jane Somers, double is one of the key factors in the understanding of the characters' relationships and the themes. However, so far the doubles in these novels have not been thoroughly discussed in the literary circle both at home and abroad. In this paper, the unique features and functions of doubles in the novels are analyzed through origin of doubles, death and rebirth, reality and dreams, and inner voice.
