On 26 August 1945, the Permanent Fortress was totally destroyed by the Red Army of the Soviet Union, who annihilated nearly 1, 380 Japanese soldiers at the price of 1,490 Soviet soldiers including a major general. The fact that the Second World War ended at Hutou Town in Heilongjiang Province hasn't been widely recognized until 1990s.
