In Europe, Lucca in Italy is the only city surrounded by city walls and maintaining its original structure during the change of its function from defense works to a public place. The city is surrounded by solid walls with palaces, cathedrals, squares and ancient houses inside, which witnessed the long history of several hundred years of the city. What makes it so special and honorable is the public awareness of preserving the ancient site. The deeply rooted persistence has been upgraded into a belief and a faith.
