The Cultural Character of Chen Baisha Spirit

白沙精神的文化品格主要体现在两方面:身心修养上对儒家精神的发扬,学术上对“自得”之学的提倡。前者表现为仁民爱物、发愤忘忧、行孝至谨、笃守志节等,同儒家文化进步传统一脉相承;后者表现为学贵知疑、求之吾心、以自然为宗等,凸现白沙学术精神的开放品格。

Chen Baisha spirit was mainly represented in two aspects., carrying forward Confucianism in terms of personal cultivation and advocating scholastic pursuit by self--reflection. The former was shown as benevolence, diligence and oblivion of self, filial piety, and integrity; it was consistent with Confucian progressive tradition. The latter was manifested as doubting in learning, self--searching, and modeling on nature; it highlighted the openness of Chen Baisha＇s scholastic spirit
