The United Nations Human Rights Council （UNHRC） held its first session June 1930, 2006, in Geneva. Addressing the gathering were Kofi Annan, UN secretary general, Jan Eliasson, president of the UN General Assembly, and Ms. Louise Arbour, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. Also speaking were foreign ministers and representatives of more than 100 countries, on development of the UNHRC elected in May to replace the UN Commission on Human Rights.
