On the Academic Domain of Environmental History and Its Position in Disciplines

本文对环境史的学术界域和学科定位问题进行初步探讨。作者将“人类生态系统”视作环境史学的一个核心概念,并据此对环境史的研究对象做了新的界定,对环境史进行了新定义。文章对环境史与相邻学科(特别是历史地理学)之间的异同进行了辨析,指出:环境史将环境和社会视为相互依存的动态整体进行历史考察,从人的文化和生物双重属性出发重新审视人类的历史,无论就学术指向、理论方法、话语体系,还是就编纂叙事方式来说,都不同于以往的历史研究,具有自己的独特性质。

A preliminary exploration to the academic domain of environmental history and Its Position in Disciplines is made in this paper. ‘Human ecological systems’ was introduced as a key wor d and a core concept of environmental history and a new definition of ‘environm ental history’has been put forward accordingly. Comparing environmental history with its adjacent disciplines (particularly historical geography), the author p ointed out that environment and society should be considered as an interdependen tly whole dynamics in environmental history studies. Environmental historians at tempt to re-examine all the history of mankind from the dual nature of culture a nd biology of man. Comparing to other disciplines, environmental history has its own unique academic character and is remarkably different from all the previous ily historical researches, for not only their academic orientation, theoretical methods, but also their words system and descriptive manner of codification.
