2006 is the first year for COSCO Group to carry out Lean Management Lean is a way of thinking about how you run your business - any business It is applicable and effective anywhere there are activities that are used to provide a product or service. The goal is simply to provide that product o service as quick as possible, at the highest quality and lowest cost, while maintaining the needed margin. COSCO (Hong Kong) Group Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of COSCO Group, operating and managing a few hundred companies in Hong Kong, Macao and the Philippines. The businesses and investment projects span over the major cities of Chinese mainland and Asia. Lean is simply about creating more value for customers by eliminating activities that are considered waste. Any activity or process that consumes resources, adds cost or time without creating value becomes the target for elimination. One of the important aspects of Lean is the focus on ’system-level’ improvements (versus ’point improvements?). It’s the system-level work that can dramatically improve a company?s bottom line results. This knowledge, combined with the understanding of how to remove waste properly, is critical for any successful Lean implementation.
