The Development of Chinese Character System

汉字体系的文字符号分成三种,即表意字符、借音字符、借义字符。随着这三种字符的发展和成熟,能记录汉语书面语的汉字体系终于形成。

This paper classifies the written words and symbols that form character system into three categories, i. e those showing meanings, those borrowing syllables, and those borrowing meanings. With their development and maturity, the Chinese character system which is capable of recording written language was eventually formed.
