对国际音标及其译名的理解

Several Questions about Translation of the Phonetic Terms in the Chart of IPA

国际语音学会制订的国际音标有过许多版本,最新的是1993年版(1996年改版),而国内使用的国际音标多是1979年版的。国际音标表的翻译反映了对国际音标表中音标和术语的理解,以前有的翻译是对音标的性质采用意译为主的做法,有的则根据英文原文直译其中术语。两种翻译可能不涉及对和错的问题,但根据术语一致性、专门性的特点,也许应该采取跟国际音标命名原则一致的译名。

The International Phonetic Alphabet developed by the International Phonetic Association has several versions, the latest being the version of 1996 updated on the version of 1993. The 1979 version is adopted in China. The translation of the recent chart of IPA reflects the understanding of the symbol system and their terms, as compared to some preceding Chinese versions of the IPA freely translated according to the property of the alphabets and others metaphrased according to the phonetic terms in the chart. Maybe no versions involve the matter of right or wrong. Given terminological consistency and technicality, we regard it proper to adopt the terms translated according to the same rule as they were denominated in the source IPA .
