Systolic blood pressure increases with age. Isolated systolic hypertension is particularly common in the elderly, and has high mortality rates and often leads to disabilities. Recently, significant advances have been made in research into isolated systolic hypertension. This article summarizes the progress in the diagnosis and treatment of isolated systolic hypertension in the elderly.
