The effect of the thickness of the incisal edges on the accuracy when predicted with Bolton analysis

目的：探讨上前牙厚度或舌面边缘嵴对Bolton指数预测(牙合)关系准确性的影响。方法：通过数学模型并编程处理。结果：Bolton指数预测胎关系受到上前牙厚度或舌面边缘嵴隆起程度的影响。Bolton指数正常,(牙合)关系可能不佳。Bolton指数偏大或偏小,但因上前牙厚度等因素的存在,(牙合)关系可能良好。结论：临床上应注意上前牙厚度和/或边缘嵴的变化对(牙合)关系的影响,上前牙厚度变化影响Bolton指数预测(牙合)关系的准确性。

Objective： To investigate the effect of changes of the thickness of the incisal edges on the accuracy when predicted with Bolton analysis. Method： A mathematical model was used and programed. Result： The ideal ratio was lower for dental arch with large labiolingual incisor thickness. A low or high Bolton value may not necessarily reflect a true intramaxillary tooth-size discrepancy and, similarly, an ideal Bolton value may not guarantee an ideal occlusion. Conclusion. The clinicians should pay more attention to the effect of the upper anterior teeth, s thickness or change of the lingual marginal ridges on the ultimate occlusion. The finishing occlusion was not always more accurate when predicted with Bolton analysis.
