On the Distinctive Function of Language

语言是人类最重要的交际工具,交际功能是语言的基本功能。除此之外,语言还具有识别功能,这从语言和社会阶层、语言和社会集团、语言和性别、语言和时代、以及语言的地域差异等几个方面可得到证实。

Language is the most important tool in the society, and communicative function is the fundamental one. Besides, language has a distinctive function, which can be illustrated in the following aspects： relationships between language and social stratification, language and social groups, language and gender, language and the times, and language and the region, etc.
