Cultural Implications of Japanese Non-verbal Communication

人们进行交际的方式是多种多样的,语言交际虽然是最重要的一种交际方式,但它始终伴随着表情、手势身势、姿势等各种非语言交际方式。非语言交际与语言交际一样,与本民族的文化发展有着密不可分的关系,尽管日本和中国在很多方面有着相似、相通之处,但在表情、手势身势、姿势以及身体接触和空间要素等非语言交际方面都存在着明显的差异。因此,在学习日语的过程中,不仅要掌握语言交际能力,还要了解对象国的非语言行为特点,从而避免产生误解。

There are various ways of communication. Though verbal communication is very important, it is always accompanied with facial expressions, body language, gestures and other ways of non-verbal communication. Like verbal communication, non-verbal communication is closely connected with the cultural development of a nation. Though Japan and China have a lot in common, there exist obvious differences in facial expressions, body language, gestures, body contact, space and other ways of non-verbal communication of these two cultures. Therefore, in the study of Japanese, we have to master not only verbal communication competence, but also study the non-verbal communication of the target language so as to avoid misunderstanding.
