On the Concept of Discourse Condensation

话语凝缩是一种非常普遍的汉语语用现象。本文提出了话语凝缩的概念,并且从话语凝缩的成分来源、结构形式、演变趋势和功能等方面与通常所说的节缩或缩略进行了对比,指出话语凝缩与节缩或缩略是两种完全不同的语言现象,前者属于汉语语用范畴,后者属于汉语的结构系统。

Discourse condensation is a popular pragmatic phenomenon in Chinese. This essay first tries to formulate and define the concept of discourse condensation. Then it tries to make a distinction between discourse condensation and Chinese clippings in terms of their formative materials, structure, evolutionary trend and function, and finally points out that discourse condensation is a unique Chinese pragmatic phenomenon while Chinese clippings belong to the Chinese language structure.
