回顾20世纪西方现代主义文学,其中最为显著的特征之一就是它对“自由写作”的刻意追求。由于许多大师表现出对自由写作的深深地眷恋和不懈的尝试,就写作上表现出的自由度而言,20世纪西方现代主义文学达到了前无古人的高度。探其原因,从外在社会文化方面看,在相当大的程度上,它是西方“现代性”文化语境下的产物;从文学自身的内在发展来看,它是近代西方文学自身发展的必然结果;从美学角度看,“自由写作”则正好表现了20世纪西方现代主义文学对传统文学美学追求的反叛特性。

Looking back on the modernist literature in the 20th century, free writing was one of the outstanding characteristics of the modernist literature. Based on many winters trying on and on, free writing of the modernist literature reaches a high level. Looking into the cause from a social and cultural angle, it derived from modernity, and it was also the inevitable outcome of the western literary development from the modern times to the 20th century. Of cause, it displayed the divergence of the modernist literature from the traditional literary aesthetic goal.
