马洛继承和拓展传统,通过再现和变形策略,把普罗米修斯神话嵌入《浮士德》剧本中,构建了一个浮士德求知的神话。普罗米修斯神话这个古典范式赋予了浮士德源自希腊神话里的求知精神和欲望,他的求知行动被放大投射到西方文化传统大语境的背景上,浮士德因此被塑造成了一个不惜一切代价追求真理和知识的人物化身。把该剧与普罗米修斯神话联系起来考察,有助于了解马洛构建求知神话的渊源和过程,充分认识浮士德这个人物形象,更好地阐释和欣赏这部作品。
Inheriting and extending the tradition, Marlowe, by means of re-embodiment and metamorphose, embeds the Promethean myth in Dr Faustus and creates a new knowledge- pursuing myth. The classical paradigm endows Faustus with the knowledge- pursuing spirit and desire originating from Greek mythologies, and whose bold actions are augmented and projected onto the background of the Western cultural context. In this way, Faustus is fashioned into an incarnation who attempts to obtain knowledge and truth at whatever cost. Studying the play in connection with the myth is beneficial to learn the sources and process in Marlowe's construction of the knowledge pursuing myth, to fully understand the character and to have the play better elucidated and appreciated.
